Queenie van de Zandt

Queenie van de Zandt is well known for her incredible versatility as a performer having worked extensively in musical theatre, plays, cabaret, on television and film, and as a recording artist, comedienne and writer. She is considered to be one of the country's best musical theatre performers and Australia's leading teacher of audition technique for musical theatre, song performance and cabaret.

On television Queenie has worked on: Winners & Losers, Very Small Business; City Homicide, Da Kath & Kim Code; Let Loose Live; All Saints; Denton; Mornings with Kerri-Anne; Good Morning Australia; The Midday Show; The 7.30 Report and The Mick Molloy Show and in theatre she has worked for companies throughout Australia including STC, QTC, The Ensemble, La Boite and the Malthouse, in plays such as: Women of Troy; Face to Face; Rabbit Hole; Absent Friends; Abigail’s Party; A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Barmaids; Caucasian Chalk Circle; Secret Bridesmaids' Business; The Vagina Monologues; The Road to the She-Devil’s Salon; Furious; and Speaking in Tongues. Queenie has also had roles in the films: Scooby Doo - The Movie, Salem’s Lot, and played the leading role of Margo in the Aussie feature film Girl Clock.

However Queenie is still probably best known for her extensive work in musical theatre and cabaret. Queenie has played leading roles in hit musicals such as: Follies, Into the Woods, King Kong, Smoke & Mirrors, Oliver!, The Full Monty, Anything Goes, Cabaret, The Boy From Oz, Eureka – The Musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Hair, and in 2016 she will play the role of Peg in Dusty. In her early career she also performed in such classic musicals as Les Misérables and The Threepenny Opera.

As a writer, Queenie has co-written two albums of original music: Amazon Woman and Other Stories and her subsequent one-woman cabaret show, Amazon Woman and Other Stories, performed at music and cabaret festivals and music venues all over Australia. Her two other critically acclaimed cabaret shows, CABARET - In 12 Easy Steps and The Best (and Worst) of Queenie van de Zandt have toured to every major cabaret festival in Australia and she continues to tour each show regionally. In 2014 Queenie released Queenie van de Zandt - Live in Cabaret - a live recording of one of her cabaret performances.

Queenie's alter-ego, Jan van de Stool, the madcap International Musical Therapist gathered a national cult following, when she appeared on Australia's Got Talent in early 2016. Her one-woman show I GET THE MUSIC IN YOU an evening with Jan van de Stool which she co-wrote with Tony Taylor, performed to packed houses in Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide and in 2006 played to sold-out houses and great critical acclaim for an extended season at the Ensemble Theatre in Sydney. She continues to tour the show to venues and comedy festivals around Australia. Jan van de Stool has been seen by over 1 million Australians through her shows, her work in corporate theatre and her online presence on YouTube and social media.

Queenie has been nominated for 13 major theatre awards for her work in musicals and cabaret, winning 3 times. In 2008 Queenie won the Jeffry Joynton-Smith Memorial Glug Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Play and the AussieTheatre.com Award for Best Female Actor and in 1997 she won the MEAA A.C.T. Green Room Award. The many awards she has been nominated for include: 2015, 2014, 2009, 2008 and 2005 Green Room Awards; a 2009 Glug Award for Best Actress; 2 AussieTheatre.com Awards in 2007; a 2006 Sydney Theatre Award; and a 2004 Helpmann Award.

For the past 17 years Queenie has presented her master classes, workshops and courses in cabaret, song performance and audition technique for musical theatre around the country. She is also writing a book about audition technique.

Over the years Queenie has studied speech and drama, singing, dancing, and acting at some of the best institutions in Australia. She has completed workshops in improvisation, film and television performance, voice over technique, singing and dialects. Over the past 28 years of her career, she has been fortunate enough to work with some of Broadway and the West End’s greatest directors, musical directors and choreographers, and also some of Australia’s best performers such as Tim Minchin, Eddie Perfect, David Wenham, Todd McKenney, Cate Blanchett, Kerry Fox, John Waters, Peter Carroll, Paul Mecurio, Judi Connelli, Joel Creasey, Andrew Denton, Dave Hughes, Kate Miller-Heidke, Chrissy Amphlett, Sammy J, Kate Ceberano, David Campbell, Lawrence Mooney, Georgie Parker, Rob Mills, Magda Szubanski, Gina Riley, Michael Veitch, and Nancye Hayes and she is a well-known and highly regarded artist within the musical theatre industry.

She has held teaching positions in numerous performing arts schools, has been invited to conduct master classes and seminars throughout Australia and has written musical theatre courses for several leading institutions. She has taught in the music department at NIDA, and has held teaching positions in the music theatre courses at VCA and BAAPA. She teaches both adults and children, professionals and amateurs, and many of the people who have studied with Queenie, have gained entry to acting schools and been cast in leading roles in musicals. Her workshops have a very high success rate with a large percentage of children and adults who participate in her workshops subsequently being cast in the professional musicals she prepares them for. Her former students have played lead roles in shows such as The Sound of Music, Heathers, Matilda, Ghost, Fiddler on the Roof, Dr Zhivago, King Kong, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dirty Dancing, Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, Strictly Ballroom, Once, Hairspray, Rock of Ages, Follies, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Annie, The Addams Family, Love Never Dies, Songs for a New World, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A Little Night Music, Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horrors, and Grease.

In 2015 Queenie founded The Australian Musical Theatre Academy (AMTA) with her good friend and theatre producer Tiffany Noack. AMTA offers workshops and courses for students of all skill levels, giving people the tools to live creative, passionate and fulfilling lives, working with the best instructors in Australia.

Queenie brings to her work, not only this wealth of experience but also her fine communication skills, her passion for theatre, her warm and positive nature and her wonderful sense of humour.

Queenie has been a proud member of the MEAA since 1989.

Martin Croft

Martin Croft started his professional career at the age of 17 with appearances on Melbourne TV. Initially trained as a classical singer, his first major show was Jesus Christ Superstar for Harry M. Miller touring Australia and New Zealand. This led to a full career in music theatre and opera, first as performer and then adding director/musical director, writer, teacher, event manager and producer to the list.

Martin has starred in most of the major shows of the last 25 years in Australia, the U.K. and USA including Les Miserables, Godspell, Cats, Miss Saigon, and The Phantom of the Opera. He has been a guest principal singer with Opera Australia and he produced and performed in Closer Than Ever, Putting It Together and the award-winning 3 Vile Men. Martin produced, co-wrote and starred in the highly successful Joe Starts Again which received the 2004 Green Room Award for Best New Musical and was invited to the inaugural New York Music Theatre Festival in September 2004.

Martin's recent credits as resident director include: Jersey Boys (New Theatricals Australasian Production), Les Miserables (Asia/South Africa Tour), The Boy From Oz (Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth), Oliver (Cameron Mackintosh Australia/Singapore), and as director: Into The Woods In Concert at Melbourne's Regent Theatre, Hats Off 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 Hats Off To Sondheim, Chelsea Plumley - Live and Luscious, Nothing's Changed - Nehama Patkin, Alex Rathgaber - Momentary Act, Ship of Fools, Dutch Courage, Boxed In, Kim Smith is Madly Adored, Thrill Me - The Leopold and Loebe Story, Up, Is There Life After High School, Into The Woods, Company, and A Little Night Music.

He has also directed numerous award ceremonies, concerts, workshops, cabarets and plays in Australia and overseas.

Martin produced The Inside of Ed's Head (Eddie Perfect's first solo CD), is currently Vice President of Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and is the recipient of 1 Mo Award and 2 Green Room Awards.

Dana Jolly

Dana’s career began at age of 9, in the musical Gypsy at Her Majesty’s Theatre Melbourne.

Dana then studied at the Victorian College of Arts, before performing with Victorian State Opera and the Australian Contemporary Dance Company.

Dana then moved to London, performing and choreographing in the UK, Europe, Scandinavia and Japan, for over a decade.

Some of Dana’s credits include, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Song and Dance London West End and European Tour, The Royal Variety Performance, British Music Awards, National Music Express Awards, Winter Olympics Norway, ‘Shall We Dance’ UK and European tours, ‘Souls In Motion’ European tour and West End, Hollywood and Broadway UK Tour, the Michael Ball television series, the Miss World Competition, Stonewall Concert Royal Albert Hall London, Strauss Waltzes Royal Festival Hall, and a wide variety of corporate, trade, fashion, film and television shows.

She has worked with such artists as Ray Charles, Madonna, Prince, East 17, Cliff Richards, The Kinks, Ewan McGregor, Michael Ball, Gloria Estefan, Robert Palmer, Oasis, Ray Charles, and Michael Crawford to name a few.

International choreographers and directors that Dana has assisted include Hal Prince, Mel Brooks and Susan Stroman in New York, and Ben Elton, David Gilmore, Arlene Phillips, and Anthony Van Laast in London.

Dana returned to Australia as Resident Choreographer for the Australian productions of Showboat, receiving a Green Room Nomination, We Will Rock You, and The Producers, before choreographing 2,000 dancers and puppeteers in Citrawarna Colours of Malaysia Festival in Kuala Lumpur. Dana then choreographed 2 productions for The Victorian Opera, and Everybody Loves Rhonda for the opening of The Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Other projects in Australia include choreography for Australian pop artists, Crown Casino, Australia Post, several television commercials, and Melbourne’s Moomba Parade and Water Festival for 3 years.

Dana’s Musical Theatre credits include Respect, staring Rhonda Burchmore, and various productions for The Production Company, including Anything Goes, Kiss Me Kate, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Little Me, Follies, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Grey Gardens, Showboat, and Nice Work If You Can Get It. In 2012 Dana choreographed the Australian premiere of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for TML Enterprises, which toured Australia (2012 & 2013), followed by the Sydney premiere of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at Sydney’s Theatre Royal (2013), which received glowing reviews. In 2015 Dana was invited to choreograph the new Australian musical Sexercise, which opened the Alex Theatre in St Kilda, as well as 2 productions for the Melbourne Theatre Company; Jumpy starring Marina Prior and Jane Turner, and the new Australian work Last Man Standing, written by Steve Vizard, and staring Peter Carroll. Dana was then asked in 2015/2016 to recreate Jerome Robbins original choreography for the musical Fiddler on the Roof starring Anthony Warlow. She then went on to choreograph the Australian debut of You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown for the Alex Theatres in St Kilda, and the Australian debut of Curtains for The State Theatre and The Production Company.

Dana also runs her own entertainment company Voltage International Productions and is in demand as a dance teacher throughout Melbourne and Australia.

Mitchell Butel

Mitchell holds three Helpmann Awards, two Green Room Awards, a Sydney Theatre Award and multiple more nominations for his work in Australian theatre over the past two decades. He has worked across various genres - classical theatre, contemporary Australian and international writing, music theatre, opera, cabaret, physical theatre, self-devised ensemble work and youth theatre and in so doing, has worked extensively for STC, MTC, QTC, STSA, ATYP, Belvoir, Bell, Griffin, Malthouse, Opera Australia, The Production Company, David Atkins Enterprises, New Theatricals, the Gordon Frost Organisation and for the Sydney, Adelaide and Perth Festivals in over 60 professional productions.

Performing highlights include Arms and the Man, South Pacific, Angels in America, The Government Inspector, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Strange Interlude, Meow Meow’s Little Match Girl, Boeing-Boeing, Othello, Summer Rain, The Venetian Twins, The Mikado, Assassins, Avenue Q, Stones in his Pockets, Little Me, Urinetown, Mourning Becomes Electra, Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love, Little Shop of Horrors, Holy Day, The Laramie Project, A View from the Bridge, Tartuffe, Tomfoolery, Dead Heart, A View from the Bridge, The Café Latte Kid, Summer of the Aliens and Six Degrees of Separation.

He holds two AFI nominations for his work in Australian feature films. His film and TV highlights include Holding the Man, Gettin’ Square, The Bank, Strange Fits of Passion, Rake, Grass Roots, Wildside and Bordertown.

As a director, Mitchell recently directed Violet which received three Sydney Theatre Awards including Best Director of a Musical and Best Production of an Independent Musical at the Hayes Theatre in Sydney and Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne and the sold-out season of Spring Awakening at Australian Theatre for Young People. His other directing credits include Approximate Balance (Griffin Theatre Company), Excellent Adventures (Chapel Off Chapel and Noosa Long Weekend Festival) and Killing Time (Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Brisbane Cabaret Festival, SummerSalt Festival Melbourne), which he also wrote and performed.

Later in 2016, he will be directing Porgy and Bess for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and performing in Disgraced for the Melbourne Theatre Company.

Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Arts (Theatre Studies) from the University of New South Wales, has been a proud member of Actors Equity since 1988, was the Deputy President of Actors Equity and Vice President of the Media Entertainment Arts Alliance from 2009 to 2013 and remains a member of the National Performers Committee. He has been a Board Member of Belvoir St Theatre since 2012.

Michael Ralph

Michael Ralph is one of Australia’s rising young choreographers who is sought after for his dynamic, unique style and fresh take on Musical Theatre story telling.

Michael’s choreographic credits include, Musical Theatre: Georgy Girl Australian Tour (Green Room Nominee), Bring it On (WAAPA), CrossXRoads, Company, West Side Story (Jerome Robbins restaging), NED – A New Australian Musical, Avenue Q, Loving Repeating (Green Room Award), Our House (Workshop), Georgy Girl (Workshop), Pacific Overtures (Green Room Nominee), My Fair Lady, and concert versions of Pippin, Milk and Honey, Flinders Street, and Happy People.

Television: So You Think You Can Dance? (Channel Ten).

Cabaret: The Petticoat Soiree, Yummy and Triage (The Butterfly Club).

Dance: Mood Swing (People’s Choice award 2011) and Project Elvis (Best Choreographer 2012) for Short & Sweet Dance. His two self-devised dance shows Now & Then (2013) and Hollywood Honky Tonk (2014) both played sell out seasons at Melbourne’s Gasworks Theatre and received positive reviews.

His performing stage credits include the roles of Skimbleshanks and Pouncival in Cats (RUG), Dance swing / role cover in Fame The Musical (GFO), and the world premiere production of Moonshadow (Yusuf Islam / Cat Stevens). Most recently he performed in Singin in the Rain and Pirates of Penzance (The Production Company).

As a teacher he is in high demand working and choreographing for many institutions all over Melbourne.

Liza McLean

Liza McLean has worked in the entertainment industry in Australia and overseas for the past twenty years, working for and collaborating with extraordinary Producers, Directors and some of worlds’ finest actors, singers and performers. In 2005 she formed Tinderbox Productions Pty Ltd and is the sole director.

In 2015 Tinderbox Productions collaborated with Luckiest Productions, Hayes Theatre Co and Neil Gooding Productions to present throughout Australia the 2014 hit production from Hayes Theatre Co. Sweet Charity starring Verity Hunt-Ballard. This was a joyous experience, & the beginning of a new relationship with Luckiest Productions. In 2016 Tinderbox Productions and Luckiest Productions have collaborated to produce the critically acclaimed Little Shop of Horrors which is currently on a national tour in Australia.

Tinderbox Productions Theatrical credits include, 2014 Australian Producer of the International touring production of The Last Confession, starring David Suchet., 2013 Co Producer The Chichester Festival Theatre Production, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui starring Henry Goodman (West End). In 2008 Liza formed a new company Kay and McLean Productions Pty Ltd with business partner and friend, Andrew Kay. Tinderbox Productions is responsible for all General Management and Financial Management for Kay & McLean theatrical productions including, 2016 return season of North by Northwest with Arts Centre Melbourne, 2015 season of North by Northwest with the Melbourne Theatre Company, Felicity Kendal as Judith Bliss in Noel Coward’s Hay Fever, Jerry Hall as Mrs Robinson in The Graduate, Tubular Bells ‘For Two’, My First Time starring Sharon Millerchip and Josef Ber, The Spaghetti Western Orchestra. Magic Flute, Impempe Yomlingo, James Rhodes, Haunted starring Brenda Blethyn and Waiting for Godot starring Ian McKellen. In 2011 Kay & McLean Co-commissioned the international tour and produced the exclusive Sydney Season of The Bridge Projects’ Richard III starring Kevin Spacey.

Prior to this, Liza McLean was an Associate Producer for ICA Presents Pty Ltd for seven years working on numerous theatrical productions in Australia and overseas.

Liza McLean was elected to the board of Live Performance Australia in 2009 and re-elected again in 2011. In 2012/2013 she became an observer to the board as her appointment as 2013 Producer of the 2013 Helpmann Awards, produced by Live Performance Australia prevented her from retaining her board position. In 2013 & 2015 she was re-elected to the board of Live Performance Australia.

Terence O'Connell

Since his graduation from NIDA’s Directors Course, Terence has staged some 150 productions in theatres, concert halls, circus tents, comedy clubs and cabaret rooms across Australia and internationally. He spent the first five years of his career as founding Artistic Director of Riverina Trucking Company, Wagga and New Moon Theatre, Far North Queensland, directing everything from Shakespeare to pop musicals.

As a freelance director, his national touring productions include Bouncers, The Rocky Horror Show, Decadence, Certified Male, Busting Out, Buddy-The Buddy Holly Story, Barmaids, Circus Oz, Motherhood-The Musical and Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

For The Production Company at Melbourne’s State Theatre, Terence has helmed They’re Playing Our Song, Oklahoma!, The Pajama Game, 42nd. Street, Damn Yankees, Crazy For You, The King & I and Kismet. His recent work includes Barassi (Athenaeum Theatre), Carrie - The Musical (Chapel Off Chapel), The Kitchen Sink (Red Stitch Actors Theatre), Dreamgirls (Chapel Off Chapel) and The 39 Steps (National Tour).

Guest Director/Artist In Residence: Western Australian Academy Of Performing Arts, Ballarat University Arts Academy, LaSalle College Of The Arts, Showfit@Centrestage and National Theatre Drama School directing showcases and graduation productions including Oklahoma!, 42nd Street, Into The Woods, Bat Boy - The Musical, Cabaret, Gypsy, Nine, The Conquest Of The South Pole and Top Girls.

Terence is Director of Spiegelworld’s Empire (Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada) and his 2016 projects include Thrill Me - The Leopold & Loeb Story (Chapel Off Chapel), Around The World In 80 Days (Alex Theatre, St. Kilda) and Antarctica - A New Musical at Theatre Royal, Hobart.

Mark Gogoll

Mark Gogoll has been involved in the entertainment industry for over thirty years. After majoring in Drama and Psychology at Melbourne University, Mark taught at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. He then went on to directing productions for The Adelaide Theatre Trust and The State Theatre Company in Perth.

As a performer, he toured in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Gondoliers, Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore. He then worked in theatre production, publicity and casting before joining an actor’s agency in Sydney back in 1987.

After returning to Melbourne, he was invited to join Performers Management and created the first Music Theatre branch of any agency in Australia. During this time, he worked on over 40 contracts of the original productions of Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera.

Five years later he branched out on his own and opened his own company Mark Gogoll Enterprises. Since then, he has personally managed high profile performers for stage and screen including Marina Prior, David Hobson and Silvie Paladino.

Natalie Alexopoulos

Natalie trained at WAAPA and has over 15 years experience on stage and screen both in Australia and internationally.

She was a member of the original Australian cast of Mary Poppins the Musical and covered the role of Nellie Forbush in Opera Australia’s South Pacific. Other credits include Kate/Lucy in Avenue Q, Company, We Will Rock You!, Ali in Mamma Mia! and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. She also appeared in both the Sydney and Melbourne productions of Leader of the Pack, The Pajama Game and Virgins - A Musical Threesome.

On Television Natalie has appeared on Home & Away and as the face of numerous advertising campaigns.

Natalie is currently the Equity Live Performance Organiser at MEAA and is enjoying the challenge of investing her energy into a different facet of the Entertainment industry.

David Piper

David Piper is a graduate of the University of Sydney (Bachelor of Music).

David was most recently Associate Musical Director for Fiddler On The Roof (TML Enterprises), and Musical Director for Mary Poppins (GC Arts Centre). He was Musical Director on Jesus Christ Superstar and Miss Saigon (GC Arts Centre), Chess (The Production Company), Associate Musical Director on Once, Legally Blonde The Musical (Ambassador), Mary Poppins (Disney/Cameron Mackintosh), Wicked (GFO) and Annie (GFO). He was Musical Director for National Theatre of China and Playking’s production of Cho Cho and again for Production Company on The Boyfriend.

As Assistant Musical Director for the original Australian production of The Boy From Oz (Ben Gannon), Musical Director for its national tour and Assistant MD on Hugh Jackman The Boy From Oz Arena. He was Assistant Musical Director on Mamma Mia (Dainty), We Will Rock You (Michael Koppel), Miss Saigon (Louise Withers and Assoc), Crazy For You (GFO) and Into The Woods. As a repetiteur/vocal coach and pianist he has worked on Strictly Ballroom (Bazmark), Sunset Boulevard, Oklahoma!, Call Me Madam (Prod Co.), Aspects of Love (Really Useful Company), West Side Story (VSO), Scrooge the Musical, The Pirates of Penzance (EssGee), Carmen Jones, Chicago (IMG), Show Boat and for the ABC with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

He has also worked as Musical Director for Magnormos Productions and for Federation University Performing Arts Faculty, Spring Awakening, A Bunch Of Ratbags. In 1991 he was a national finalist in the ABC Young Performers’ Award performing with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
